Not many people know the story behind the name Grave Shift Studios, or wtf the logo actually is. I’ve heard some people say that they think it’s a remix of the Christian symbol I call the “Jesus Fish”. Some folks just think it’s an outright FISH. Never the one to derail anyones interpretation of symbolism I leave them be.

To be honest with you, I can’t be to mad at the either interpretations; I grew up in my church and I’m a Cancer (a water sign). But the logo actually represents passion.

In my college days I use to sit in my room hours on end doing a myriad of things trying to learn the tools of my craft. I was one of, if not the only, person on campus with their own camera and editing suite. Though this gave me a leg up on my peers, I still had to force myself to develop as an artist with the tools around me. I’ll never front like this was an easy task, especially being a frustrated perfectionist who knew little to nothing about the tools in front of him.

The soundtrack to these late nights were the sounds of Kanye West’s “College Dropout” album. The chorus to his song “Spaceship” spoke on the dreams and passions he had to make it, and it struck a chord with me. I was in the midst of my junior year of college, I was about to be a father, and I was derailed. All I had were my passions, my dreams, and my tools.

All these years later, have I made it yet? No. I can’t really pin point what it is exactly, but I’m back on my path, and I’m enjoying the ride.

So what is the logo exactly? It’s a passion, a dream, a journey… it’s Grave Shift Studios.
